5 July, 2019Historic Center
1 August, 2019There are many alternatives for having fun in Mexico City, one of them is the theaters in Roma, which welcome spectators who want to see different types of stage productions, because if there is something that distinguishes this neighborhood it is the variety.
The cultural offering of the Mexican capital is very wide, ranging from avenues that are rich in history, such as Paseo de la Reforma, to buildings that have room for ballet, music and of course, plays.
In Mexico City there are more than 150 theaters, located throughout the capital; however, it is the downtown area where most of them are concentrated, specifically in the Cuauhtémoc district.
The theaters in Roma, the museums, the open-air forums and other activities have made it possible for the city to be named the “Cultural Capital of America” in order to promote this type of practice.
So that you can enjoy the theater part, we leave you some that are located in the Roma neighborhood, so that you can visit them as soon as you can.
La Teatrería Forum
This cultural space “is a small stage space, designed as a showcase for the presentation of theatrical, dance and performance projects, completely free of charge and for the general public.”
This is how La Teatrería explains on its official website the concept of this forum, which is classified as the only one of its kind, not only in Mexico City, but also in the world, which has been called “showcase theater.”
This forum is also known for hosting national and other international productions in its spaces, such as the famous play “Conejo blanco, conejo rojo” (White Rabbit, Red Rabbit) originating in Argentina, in which the singer Julieta Venegas participated.

El Foco “is an alternative forum for the creation, exhibition, planning and development of performing arts, with the aim of producing and maintaining a strategic space for its development.”
In addition to theater performances, in this place that was previously called the Comedy Forum, other types of activities are held such as reading aloud meetings, since the objective is to promote culture in general.

Cultural Center Theater 1
This is one of the most famous cultural complexes in the capital, both for its location and for the type of shows that are presented in its facilities, which range from plays to ballet.
This cultural center is brought to life by two theater stages and one of its characteristic aspects is that on the ground floor of the building there is a shopping plaza, which allows for socializing before the performances begin.
Children and adults alike have fun on the two stages of this place, because it is common to see children's plays from popular series or movies, as well as seasonal shows such as The Nutcracker, during the Christmas season.

Avenida Cuauhtémoc #19, corner with Avenida Chapultepec.

Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sensorama Multiperceptual Experiences
This is a unique space, which is part of the theaters in Roma, except that the conventional goes further in this place, which is why its original concept has been well received by the capital's residents.
On their official website they mention that they are the first sensorial immersion theater company in the country, which has been giving peculiar shows to the public who want to take their emotions to unique experiences for more than 20 years.
The work of this company is focused on transforming the perception of all its visitors and developing their sensitivity, because sometimes the daily rhythm of life prevents us from noticing beyond what appears to be at first sight.
Through Sensoteatro, a deep immersion is made in multiperceptual experiences, not with acts where observing the actors is the main thing, but with shows where the quality of "feeling, imagining, inhabiting and experiencing" is exploited.
These types of experiences are also organized for other types of audiences, for example, for marketing agencies, with the aim of promoting their products, and others that focus on children, where they learn through games and fun.
Address
San Luis Potosí #199, first floor, between Medellín and Monterrey.
Hours
Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
El Bicho Forum
Although it is currently closed, El Bicho is one of the theaters in Roma that was very successful thanks to the alternative shows it presented. This forum was opened by the filmmaker Hari Sama with the aim of giving the inhabitants of the capital another entertainment option.
This forum was considered a place of experimentation, where any project focused on Mexican dramaturgy and cinematography was welcome for the public to enjoy.
Only independent works were presented here, which had to be produced, directed and acted by Mexican talent, since the main objective of this place was to spread the performing arts of our country.
Address
Colima #268, between Avenida de los Insurgentes and Tonalá.
All of these theaters are an important part of the cultural life that characterizes Mexico City, a capital that is recognized in the rest of the country for the number of shows it offers throughout the year.
If you are thinking of visiting the capital to spend a few days of fun and entertainment, a good lodging option is Stanza, a hotel located in Roma, the same neighborhood where the theaters we present to you throughout this article are located.
